Not a Scam

Question:
We just got a
form in the mail asking us to report some information on our newly
hired employees. Is this report part of a new scam or has Big
Brother just landed in Alaska?
Answer:
The Personal
Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996
requires that each state establish new-hire reporting programs to
help track down non-custodial parents who hope to dodge child
support by moving into a new state. You can fill out the form sent
you by the Department of Revenue or simply give the State’s
Child Support Enforcement Division a copy of your newly hired or
rehired employees’ W-4s along with your organization’s federal
tax identification number.
